On Sunday, Dec. 12, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. a holiday cookie cooking class will be held at I-House. Language teacher Kathi Hickey (kathihickey@yahoo.com) will be the chef. Free for I-House members, others pay $10. Sign up for the class by phoning Deborah Zavala, I-House office manager, at 753-5007. Limit 8 participants.

Kathi will bake two varieties of Eastern European cookies. One is called kolachki (“cookies” in Slavic and rugalach in Yiddish). The other is called Russian tea cakes, but is similar to many other walnut-based butter cookies (Mexican wedding cookies, Swedish crescents, etc.)
