Storytelling: “Imani’s Moon”

January 10, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Sunday, January 10, 2016, 2 – 3 p.m.

Children’s book author and educator presents “Imani’s Moon”

Children’s book author and educator JaNay Brown-Wood will present a program

centered around her award-winning children’s book, “Imani’s Moon” that tells the story

of a young Maasai girl with a loving mother and a desire to do something great. When

she decides she wants to touch the moon, she works hard to reach her goal, even in the

face of teasing from the naysayers around her.

In addition to sharing the story there will an art project and some dancing. JaNay will

also share some of her poetry and talk to children about her love for writing as a child.

JaNay grew up in Fresno, California where she realized her love for writing and for

educating children. With a BA in Psychology and Applied Developmental Psychology

and an MA Early Childhood she is now an Education professor at American River.

Through the years, JaNay has been a performer, preschool teacher, camp counselor,

poet, silly-song singer, youth specialist, designer of curriculum, Harry Potter lover,

college professor, reader, jellybean eater, and someone who truly cares about our

future generations.
