November 22, 2014 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm| $15.00
One of the most enjoyable events at I-House or any place else in America is our annual Thanksgiving Dinner. We always hold it the Saturday before the real Thanksgiving and plan a special traditional meal. This year’s meal takes place on November 22nd.
The meal is open to students, community members and international visitors.
This year, the St. James Women’s Guild has already offered to bake pies for us. Many thanks to Leslie Westergaard and her cohorts! We like to offer our guests all kinds of pies from fruit to pecan, pumpkin to custard.
Traditionally, the board of directors at I-House supplies roast turkeys, carved, with gravy or au jus. We usually go through 10 turkeys at our meal that seats 100 people in the decorated Community Room.
Tickets are $15 each and must be purchased in advance at I-House M-F 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, vegetables and cranberry sauce will also be on the menu thanks to Ludi’s and UCD Dining Services. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., the buffet dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
While we are eating, guests are asked to write down on a piece of paper what they are thankful for. The papers are collected and read aloud from the podium.
“It’s a very moving event,” said Elisabeth Sherwin, executive director.” Thanks are given for the opportunity to study in the U.S.A., for loved ones (including pets), for the meal, for good health, and for anything anyone can think of.”
