GREAT DECISIONS 2015 – COURSE DESCRIPTION

International House Davis is pleased to announce the return of the Great Decisions discussion series in April-May 2015.  Retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer Rick Becker will lead group discussions on some of the serious international challenges facing the United States today, as selected by the Foreign Policy Association of New York.

During eight weekly 2-hour sessions, course participants will examine the following issues:  Russia, Brazil, India, Syria’s refugee crisis, U.S. policy in Africa, sectarianism in the Middle East, human trafficking, and privacy in the digital age.

The first class will meet on Thursday, April 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at International House Davis. Pre-registration is required.  Participants will grapple with practical questions of why nations preach peace and wage war, how international cooperation often works—but sometimes fails, and how the U.S. as a global leader seeks to reconcile the exercise of power with humanitarian values.

Course enrollees will receive a briefing book authored by subject matter experts and designed to inform and stimulate reasoned debate.  Email I-House Office Manager Ryndie Azevedo for additional details, including course schedule and fees, at office@internationalhousedavis.org.  Enrollment is limited.
