Great turn-out for Bollywood!

We had a full house on April 30 when Bollywood came to Davis! Thanks to Ajay Gehlawat, assistant professor of theater and film at Sonoma State University, for coming to I-House to talk about Bollywood and show a movie reflective of the “new woman” in Bollywood: featuring some of the most talented recent Bollywood stars, Laage Chunari Mein Daag tells the story of Vibhavari (Rani Mukherjee) and Subhavari (Konkona Sen Sharma), sister who migrate from their home in Varanasi to Bombay, in search of work to support their family. The film includes many colorful and innovative song and dance sequences set in Bombay, Switzerland and Benares, creating an unforgettable coming-of-age story about the journey of a young woman entering into a new world and what she learns about herself in the process.
