Dr. Koen Van Rompay, HIV/AIDS researcher and recipient of the UC Davis 2010 Excellence in Research Award, will give a layman’s talk on the status of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and research on Sept. 30 at International House Davis.
“I will talk about what we know, what we don’t know, and what we can do,” he said. Come learn about the latest news from the recent International AIDS Conference in Vienna, and join an interactive group quiz and discussion.
Van Rompay, who is faculty at UCD and also board member of I-house, has been HIV/AIDS researcher for the past 20 years. If you have any questions about HIV/AIDS, this your opportunity to clarify them!
Van Rompay is the recipient of the UCD 2010 Excellence in Research Award for his HIV/AIDS research that laid the foundation for some of today’s most commonly used HIV intervention strategies. He is also a recipient of the 2010 Community Service Award for his work with the nonprofit organization Sahaya International (www.sahaya.org), through which he helps many children and adults affected by HIV in developing countries, especially India and Kenya.
He also is the coordinator of the upcoming Hope Walks Davis event on Oct. 17 in Arroyo Park which is also sponsored by International House (www.sahaya.org/hopewalksdavis.html).
