Hello, my name is Funke Aderonmu and I am a UC Davis International Relations and Economics double major. In the past I have served the international community Davis through volunteering at International House Davis’ 2014 International Festival and this summer I will be volunteering in Africa for 7 weeks with an organization called Operation Crossroads Africa (operationcrossroadsafrica.org/). Operation Crossroads is a non-profit organization that sends students in the US to various African countries i.e. Ghana and Tanzania to learn about the customs and culture of the people in a community and to partner with the local youth to implement a service project aimed at addressing a need in the community.

Some of the projects I will engage in as a volunteer include education/teaching math and English, construction projects such as a water filtration system, sustainable agriculture to increase crop yields and women’s empowerment/entrepreneurship to diversify and raise income levels. As a volunteer in Africa, I will face challenges, but it will also be a rewarding experience.

The program cost is $3800 and includes everything from international airfare to project materials. I am currently saving money from a part time job and have set up an online fundraising campaign as well as a fundraising letter campaign to cover the program fee which must be turned in by April 20th 2015. Please join me in making a positive difference this summer through Operation Crossroads by donating to my fundraising campaign at http://www.gofundme.com/funkestripabroad and by sharing this campaign on social media and other platforms with your friends, family, and others who would be interested in providing support. Tax deductible donations are also acceptable upon request, email me at funke_95@yahoo.com In addition, I would be more than willing to speak to your local community organization about my volunteer plans and how you can help support this mission! Please contact me at funke_95@yahoo.com if you are interested.
