Art Exhibit: Gayle Bon Durant - "On the Cutting Edge", 10/10/2007-11/6/2007
Figurative as well as abstract quilts inspired by the natural world, art, and architecture observed on recent travels can be viewed.
The artist uses her love of colors and asymmetry in a series of figurative botanical pieces as well as graphic, improvisational quilts which the viewer may interpret as landscapes, architectural elements or abstract art. These are composites of visual memories inspired by travels in Costa Rica, Columbia, Spain, and sojourns at southern California beach communities. Many of the botanical works feature plants often depicted in Japanese art. The quilts incorporate printed and hand-dyed cotton, machine- and hand quilting and Applique'.
