Art Exhibition - "Connections" - Sue Britz (12/10/2010-1/12/2011)

The selection of photographs that I share in this showing has the common theme “Connections”. In each grouping I have focused on comparisons in color, composition, texture, and/or content. Most of the shots have been taken within the last year using my Canon Rebel XSI, but there are others from previous travels. I used Adobe Photoshop to refine or play with my images.

Art Exhibition - "Wildlife of Costa Rica" - Dan Suzio (1/14/11 - 2/8/11)

Art Exhibition - "Wildlife of Costa Rica" - Dan Suzio (1/14/11 - 2/8/11)

When I photograph wildlife, my goal is much more than just documenting an animal's identity or behavior (although that can be important, especially to my textbook clients). I want to make a portrait, much as a studio photographer would, using the same creative techniques of lighting, composition, and color to capture the spirit of the individual as well as the species or location. In other words, I want people who view my photos to feel they're getting a glimpse of the animal's "personality.

Art Exhibition - "Culture of Silk" - Mary deCamp Cooper (1/14/11 – 2/8/11)

As long as I can remember, the African culture has had a fascination for me. The African gospel music and the way they move, the bright designs in the clothing and their colorful head scarves and their wonderfully big smiles and interesting features. My paintings are about the Africans, black Americans and the Caribbean. My empathy and attraction for black culture developed early when as a child my favorite story book was “Little Black Sambo” and my favorite songs I sang were songs by Steven Foster like “0l' Black Joe”. My paintings sometimes depict those images.

Art Exhibition - "My Surroundings" - Michael Stevenson (2/11-3/8)

Art Exhibition - "My Surroundings" - Michael Stevenson (2/11-3/8)

My creative world has largely been shaped by the images of daily life in the African American community in which I grew up. The way people dressed, the foods that were shared, and the way people interacted all influenced my view of the world. So did the sports figures we all looked up to, the promise of education, and values like faith, hard work and discipline that challenged us to reach for a better life.

Art Exhibition : "The Vanishing Rural Landscape in and Around Yolo County" William Kenefick (2/11 - 3/8)

William Kenefick is a photographer living in Yolo County, California. He has been pursuing his interest in traditional, black-and-white photography since 2004. Mr Kenefick prefers to work with black—and-white film and print his photographs in the darkroom using chemical processes and traditional techniques. This preference is due to the unique properties of black-and—white film and the evocative nature of the resulting gelatin silver prints.

Art Exhibition - "Color of Life" - Neda Akhondan (3/11-4/5)

Art Exhibition - "Color of Life" - Neda Akhondan (3/11-4/5)

Painting with watercolors has filled my life with joy. Since I approach each painting with a particular technical objective, each one is a challenge - a pleasurable challenge. I enjoy exploring new techniques. I experiment with subject matter, papers and brushes. Each new combination of paints is a colorful surprise. As an artist, my goal is to create paintings that are compelling - that somehow touch the viewer in a personal way. After years of experience, I remain convinced that watercolor is a difficult medium. The more I paint the more I need to continue painting. There is always more to learn.

Art Exhibition - "Portraits" - Mario Vargas (3/11 - 4/5)

Art Exhibition - "Portraits" - Mario Vargas (3/11 - 4/5)

In this body of work my focus is the portrait. The way I think of it, a portrait is not a mirror or a look alike piece of work. For me, it has to do with the persona, their patience, time and what they give to me of themselves at the time of painting. At one point, my process becomes a litany. I also become part of the equation--hence the painting. All these portraits have a different approach, look and feel. This accounts for the fact that we are all different personalities and even in the same medium the image will not be the same.; for example, a stylized image or images.

This is an outstanding exhibition of photographs taken in Nepal by Alan Plisskin. For serious backpackers and trekkers hiking in the Himalayas and seeing Mt. Everest in person, should be near the top of the list. Some of the world’s most awe-inspiring and beautiful scenery is readily accessible.

Art Exhibition - “Twenty Years to the Day...” -Jesus Barela (5/13 -6/7)

A Retrospective Art Show and Collective of Artistas Jesus Barela Jesus Barela is a native California artist whose large scale canvases capture both a sense and scene of the Mexican muralist. He has been working as a painter for twenty years and studied at California State University of Sacramento and at La academia de San Carlos in Mexico City. These studies are coupled with the artist commitment to work, which over time has resulted in a body of work consisting of evolving imagery that maintains a stylistic consistency while exploring fresh territory. The artist states that: “It is always my intention to utilize any means to bring a painting forth” This premise is evident when considering his present mature scope of work.

Art Exhibition - “Growth with her” - Pricilla Daniels (5/13-6/07)

The series “Growth with her” represents love for family, imagination, color, emotion, sacrifice and hope for what's to come. The painting titled “Growth with her” was a breakthrough for Priscilla's expressionism and was inspired by how she feels about motherhood. Priscilla wanted to express what being a mother really felt like and the changes that happen with a woman as she brings a new child into her life.
