UNICEF Awareness at I-House in October

During the month of October International House will be working with the Davis chapter of the United Nations Association (UNA-USA) to provide several special events for families and the Davis community, in recognition and celebration of the United Nations (UN) and United Nations’ Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

A UNICEF display table will be set up in the lounge at I-House for the month of October with information for adults and children. Traditional orange UNICEF collection boxes will be part of this display and can be signed out starting October 1. Stop by to learn more about UNICEF and how even a small donation can provide vital supplies for a needy child.

The Children’s International Storytelling Program on Sunday October 19, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the I-House, will feature the Acme Theatre Company in a dramatization of an international folktale. Prior to the performance there will be a short presentation on how Trick –or -Treating for UNICEF helps children in other parts of the world get the things they need to grow and survive. All donations at this performance will be given to UNICEF.  For more details see Storytelling: Acme Theatre Company and UNICEF Awareness, Sunday October 19, 2008

On Friday, October 24, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Community Room at the I-House the local chapter of the UNA and the American Association of University Women will celebrate UN Day with a program centered on Millennium Development Goal # 7: Ensuring Environmental Sustainability. Environmental activists May Boeve and Jamie Henn, co-authors of Bill McKibben’s Fight Global Warming Now and co-coordinators of 350.org, an international grassroots climate change campaign, will speak about the significance and potential of youth leadership in the growing climate change movement.  They will focus on ways to build an inter-generational climate movement that values contributions of participants of all ages.  For more information regarding the program contact Verena Borton at (530)756-0632 or rvborton@comcast.net.
