Docents Present Lecture: "Christians and Moslems in Mindanao, Philippines" - Mon., March 3, 2008
"Christians and Muslims on Mindanao, Philippines: Partners for Peace and Progress" is the topic of the March Docents Present Lecture, 12:00 p.m. in the Community Room. Ms. Josephine Rabanal Migalbin, Ph.D. is at UC Davis as a Humphrey Scholar. Dr. Migalbin will be discussing how Christians and Moslems work together to bring peace and progress in Mindanao, a land that has been dominated by conflict. While conflict always dominates headlines, she believes that the more significant side of the story should be told, the story of progress and peace-making that is occurring simultaneously in the same region.
Dr. Migalbin is Dean of the College of Fisheries and Animal Science at the University of Southern Mindanao in the Philippines. Her academic background includes two Master's Degrees (Animal Science and Aquaculture) and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Sciences. She has taught graduate students for 20 years and undergraduate students for 24 years. She has taught rural farmers on sustainable farming techniques and has been involved in many livelihood projects for Christians, Moslems and Indigenous Peoples. While here she is studying agricultural development and also the impact of global climate change to agriculture.
