As a result of the second Sudanese civil war, over 27,000 children fled their villages in an effort to escape death, slavery and the memories of their families' murders and communities' destruction. This film is a portrait of three young Sudanese men, "Lost Boys," who survived their years of wandering and eventually were chosen to be resettled from their Kenyan refugee camp at Kakuma to the United States. Depicting the experiences of John Bul Dau, Panther Bior and Daniel Abu Pach, both in their African past and in their first difficult years in the U.S., and encouraging them to talk about their deepest feelings, the director urges us who view this film to see our own and their world through another's eyes. Perhaps the most moving moment is the airport reunion, after 17 years of not knowing whether the other was alive, between John Bul Dau and his mother who emits a high-pitched, traditional keening cry of joy and gratitude. Narrated by Nicole Kidman.
