Concert of Traditional Japanese Music in Memory of I-House founder Shunta Yamamoto (5/23 3-5 p.m.)
Free and open to the public, a traditional Japanese music concert will take place at I-House on Sunday, May 23, 3-5 p.m. presented by several musicians who have given concerts at I-House in years past, most recently in 2007. The musicians will include Naoko playing the koto and shamisen, Kyokuto Kimura playing the biwa and Philip Gelb playing the shakuhachi.
Sumiyo Tamura Guerena (known as Naoko) is the organizer and one of the musicians. She plans to bring Molly Kimura, an elderly friend of the I-House founder Shunta Yamamoto to the concert, which will be held in memory of Yamamoto. This is a free concert, open to the public.
"This will be a beautiful, traditional Japanese music concert," said Elisabeth Sherwin, I-House executive director. "It is a rare event and we are extremely lucky to have these world-class musicians sharing their talents with us. Please join me on May 23 here at I-House."
