Join us at I-House in a celebration of the UN’s 65th Anniversary by Davis UNA Chapter. “ENGAGING OUR COMMUNITY IN THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS” The MDGs, are an unknown quantity to many people. Yet they are a set of initiatives that have guided all 192 United Nations member states for the past ten years since being adopted at the UN’s 2000 Millennium Summit with the aim of alleviating poverty around the world by 2015 through a series of targets:
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development
On October 24 from 3 – 5 p.m. in the Community Room at International House, 10 College Park, Davis, a panel presentation will be held on progress made in achieving the MDGs.

MDG #1 will be addressed by Isao Fujimoto, UCD Community Development Lecturer
MDG #2 will be presented by Judy Davis, longtime principal and teacher
MDG #3 will be examined by Doris Earnshaw who has published books on the topic
MDG #4 and #5 will be discussed by Carrie Sparrevohn, midwife and activist
MDG #6 will be elaborated on by Koen Van Rompay, HIV/AIDS researcher at UCD
MDG #7 will feature Mitch Sears, Sustainability Programs Manager for the City of Davis
MDG #8 will be summarized by Rick Becker, retired from US Senior Foreign Service

At the conclusion of the panelists’ presentations there will be time for Q & A, followed by refreshments.
